Zocor

Zocor (simvastatin) is a cholesterol-lowering drug specially designed for the treatment of patients with high levels of bad cholesterol in the blood. It can help people with high levels of cholesterol to avoid more dangerous diseases, such as heart disease and vascular disease. Taking Zocor if you are breastfeeding or if you have liver disease is not recommended. Make sure you do not eat foods high in cholesterol or fat, as this way Zocor is not going to be efficient in your case. Alcohol can raise your levels of triglycerides and should therefore not be used along with this medicine or if you have high levels of cholesterol. Report any of the following health conditions to your health care provider before staring to take this medication regularly: muscle disorder, underactive thyroid, diabetes, and kidney disease, as they may affect the dose you are prescribed. To make sure you are benefitting form the treatment your blood and your liver condition will need to be tested regularly. Make sure you follow a healthy diet and exercise routine recommended to make sure your treatment brings great results. Report any of the following medications to the doctor prescribing Zocor if you are taking them at the moment and intend to carry on with the treatment while using Zocor: HIV or AIDS medications, verapamil, cholestyramine, nefazodone, erythromycin, warfarin, diltiazem, cancer medicine, antifungal medication, clarithromycin, danazol, steroids, amiodarone, and telithromycin. Your health care provider needs to know about all threes medications, as a dose adjustment may be also required. If you are taking a number of drugs simultaneously – it’s a good idea to make a list of them for your health care provider to see clearly which dose of Zocor you will benefit from at the same time avoiding possible interactions with other medicines you are using. Zocor can cause some mild side effects, such as mild stomach pain, stomach upset, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas, heartburn, and nausea. There is no need to notify your health care provider about those side effects – especially if you develop them at the very beginning of your treatment. Your body needs some time to adjust to the dose prescribed, and unless the symptoms mentioned get bothersome or are particularly severe you are not supposed to report them to anywhere. An overdose of Zocor is not expected to be lethal or produce any symptoms that are very serious. However, you need to seek emergency medical help if you happened to take too much of it – just to make sure everything is okay and you can carry on with the treatment, At the same time it’s important to remember than taking more of Zocor than prescribed is not going to increase the effectiveness of this medicine. Zocor is most efficient if taken just as prescribed without exceeding the dose recommended. You are never supposed to share your dose of this medicine with anyone, as every dose it based on the patient’s individual needs and may need to be adjusted for another person.
